Special Project “Lawyers of the Putin regime”: S.V. STEPASHIN

Lawyers from different countries have taken public positions, condemning Russia’s aggression. Law firms in Italy, Germany, England, Poland, and other countries work together to help Ukrainian lawyers find employment and support refugees from Ukraine.

International law firms stop serving Russian clients and close their offices there. Since the first day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the International Bar Association has spoken out against Russia’s neglect of life and persistent violations of international law and has called for Russia’s suspension of membership in the UN Human Rights Council.

Today we share the position of Sergei Vadimovich Stepashin, Chair of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, doctor of law, within a special project “Lawyers of the Putin regime”:

  • “We signed the Minsk agreements. For seven years they have been brainwashing, destroying people. It was the genocide in the Donbass. Thousands of people died”.
  • “Why don’t they say “war” now? Because it’s an operation. Do you know what war is? The Americans used carpet bombing in Vietnam. They hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nuclear weapons, bombed all of Iraq. This is war. We cannot fight like that, our population is there, our people are there. Throughout Ukraine, our people, except for banderas and the Nazis. Russia came to Ukraine to end the war”.
